The Good Cook Book Club
Jan 04 '01
The Good Cook Book Club is registered by the Book-of-the-Month-Club. You get the Good Cook catalog 17 times a year, featuring not only the books offered but recipes and tips. I got this catalog in the mail not too long ago as I am a book-club junkie. I was amazed at the selection of cookbooks offered. Some of these are $50 cookbooks that they were offering for $1 in the introduction offer.
To start you off you get 4 books for $1 each, plus shipping and handling. Then you only have to buy 2 more cookbooks in the next year. This is a lot better than the 4 or 6 books most clubs make you buy. Plus at the beginning of the club, you can also get a 5th book for 50% off. After the introduction, books are still around 25% off publishers price.
Some books that were included in my catalog were:
All New/All Purpose Joy of Cooking
6001 Food Facts & Chef's Secrets
The New Making of a Cook
Sylvia's Family Soul Food CookBook
Smokehouse Ham, Spoon Bread, and Scuppernong Wine
1,000 Jewish Recipes
Essentials Cooking
What I also like is the fact that once you get a selection you have 10 days to look through the book and read it and see if you like it. If not you can return it to the club. They have a 100% satisfaction guarantee for 10 days following a purchase.
There is a savings plan to where every book you get earns points. You can use these points to "purchase" other books when you have enough of them. Books have varying "earn" points and "buy" points. By this I mean a book may earn you 3 points when you buy it, but need 20 points to actually buy that book with points alone.
