Books, Books and More Books...and lots of other stuff too!May 28 '00 Write an essay on this topic. Thanks to Amazon.com, the UPS guy and I are on a first name basis. Amazon.com had the honor of being the first place I shopped online (you remember, back in the late 90's, when it was a novelty?). We are a homeschooling family, and this is our first year. As we struggled to define our areas of interest, Amazon.com proved as helpful a resource as our local library. Some of Amazon's best features include their competitive pricing (even calculating shipping costs), their ability to recommend based on past purchases, and their ability to recommend based on what other customers buying the book you are intested in have purchased. Currently, we're collecting resources for a lengthy study of Ancient Egypt. My list of 10 titles quickly became a list of 20 as I used Amazon's recommendations to find additional resources. Although Amazon does not offer coupons as often as some of the other online stores, it is possible to earn gift certificates at some of the popular rewards programs (Freeride, Firstlook, etc.) When trying to stretch our book budget, these "free" gift certificates can be a major help. As an intermittent customer for several years, and a very regular customer for the past year, we've never had a customer service problem. All of our books have been received in a reasonable amount of time, and for a reasonable price. By all means, support your local bookstores, if you're fortunate enough to have one, but if you need access to a world of literature (and other merchandise) give Amazon a chance to serve you. |
