The Belgariad

For me, the best series ever written has to be The Belgariad by David Eddings.
Originally meant to be 5 books, it has since expanded to 13 books, and all are excellent.
This is set in a fantasy realm, where magic prevails. The saga starts with the orphan Garion, raised by his aunt Pol, and visited occasionally by a kind old wandering storyteller.
Thus begins the first set of 5 books. The second set (The Malorian) take place about 5-10 years after the first set of 5 books.
The final 3 stand-alone books follow Polgara, Belgarath, and the prophecies that wrap around everything in that universe. This is a true epic story, and you will be craveing the next in the series as soon as you finish the previous book. I have read the complete series at least 3 times, and still love it over most others.
If you like Raymond Feist (Riftwar Saga) or L.E. Modesitt (Recluse), Eddings is somebody you need to read.
