"Web of Intrigue" snares it's readers interest right from the first page and doesn't let them go until the last! It's characters could easily be you and me and the sinister "bait" used to lure the innocent victims can be found in each of our homes!
"Web of Intrigue" is a book of fiction...or is it? Some may argue that it rings all to true in this modern day attraction of fantasy role-playing on the internet. Far too many unsuspecting people, especially children, find themselves to be the innocent victims of those that would like to do them harm. They, like the characters in "W.O.I.", mistakenly believe that they are hiding behind the shield of anonymity; however, as in Beth's case, find this can be a deadly mistake!
The following is an excerpt from an Instant Message between the "W.O.I" character, Beth and her tormentor...he has been stalking her without her ever contacting him. She has even found evidence that he has access to her home!
GDWORD: Stop it! Stop following me!!....
ARA: it is you who must stop beth....your attempts to expose me will only make things more deadly for you :-(
GDWORD: But they didn't know...how could they know??? They thought it was a game!...
ARA: i don't play games....
GDWORD: I can't let you go on poisoning their minds. It's over! I'm not afraid of you anymore. I know what you're doing! They're innocent.
ARA: the easiest prey. <Grin>...
Once Beth realizes what is happening to the young people in her youth group, she tries to meet with someone whom she feels will believe her and be able to help stop this devious predator...unfortunately, she never gets the chance...
Soon, all of Beth's family members find themselves entangled in this treacherous web of intrigue. How far will this Predator go? Who is a friend? And who is not? Who can they really trust?
The following is a quote from a column written in the local "North Dallas Daily" paper by "W.O.I." fictitious character, Dedra Koehler:
PREDATORS IN CYBERSPACE
Beware: Cyberspace is more than just kid space. It's a mixture of educational, entertaining, and exciting Websites. Allowing your child or teen to surf the Web unsupervised is risky at best.
In most cases, going online can be an exhilarating experience. But in chat rooms, where role-playing and fantasy are often half the fun, new acquaintances aren't always who or what they seem.
I found that Susan Taggart, a screenwriter, did a very good job on writing her 1st novel, "Web of Intrigue. She was able to capture my attention and keep it! Although I enjoyed reading it and had trouble putting it down, I did find a few discrepancies and some mistakes. I also felt that she could have expanded in some areas. Overall, I would still recommend "W.O.I." to anyone who likes suspense and intrigue! ;)
