George A. Effinger's book, "Maureen Birnbaum, Barbarian Swordperson" is a wonderful and funny read. Nine short stories, where Maureen, also known as Muffy, whooshes through different adventures. George takes a spoof on other wonderful stories and places Maureen Birnbaum in the middle of the action. Maureen visits stories by Edgar Rice Burroughs, Isaac Asimov, and many others, which if you want to know just read the book. Believe me, once you start reading about the uptown, fashion princess turned broadsword swinging adventurer you'll be turning pages as fast as you can, just to find out what happens next. In my opinion this is a must read for any sci-fi fan.
