It's The Year To Learn

VistaVoyager hit it right on the mark with her epinion on the political situation that is going on all around us. Especially here in Southwest Florida where ballot counting is more popular than a day at the beach. From adversity often comes change and in my opinion that will be good. Hopefully in future elections we'll have ballots that are easily understood by all the public. (However I didn't think the butterfly ballots in question were really difficult to figure out.) And hopefully the Electoral College will be phased out. To still have something in operation that was created hundreds of years ago when the government felt the general public was too ignorant to vote seems a bit bizarre this day and age. What's wrong with letting the popular vote determine who wins? But for now we must stick by the rules and let the Electoral College cast their votes. (NOTE: I use WebTV and cannot paragraph so I use dots.) .......................................................................................................................................................The good thing about this close Presidential race is that people are getting involved and talking about the situation. We had a record voter turnout and hopefully that is something that will continue. We live in the greatest country on earth and for someone to not exercise their right to vote is a sad commentary on society. If the popular vote were the determining factor in an election, maybe that would bring more people to the polls. ..........................................................................................................................................................Those opposed to the abolishment of the Electoral College feel smaller states like Rhode Island would not be visited by the Presidential candidates, that more emphasis would be placed on the larger states. Isn't that the way it is now? Looking at the big picture, I think it's far more important for a person's vote to count than having the candidate visit their state. .........................................................................................................................................................I just hope that regardless of who comes out the winner when the final votes are counted that American's drop their partisan feelings and support the President. There will always be another election in four years.
