Perhaps...Jan 04 '01 Write an essay on this topic. While these books are fun, I foretell it will be a generational hit only. While Ramona Quimby, Sweet Valley High, and Voltron meant something to my childhood and many others it doesn't make them classics. They were fads. My range of classics runs from CS Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia being at the top to the borderline : _Hello God its Me Margaret_ (which gets included cause of it's universal coming of age story line that will be passed from hand to hand). Impact and not sales is what the Harry Potter books are dependent on. Are they something that will shape the youth, something people will later identify with directly when thinking of their childhood. Maybe it will be a classic. As it stands in my head- cute books but not classics. |
