A cross between Indiana Jones and James Bond

Written: Apr 26 '00 (Updated Apr 26 '00)
Pros:everything, just read one of his books
Cons:none

Clive Cussler is one of the best non-fiction writers. The fact that his books have sold nearly 100 million, have been translated into more than 20 languages, and everyone one hit the best-sellers list proves it. He has even had a few of his books reformatted so that younger audiences can enjoy his literary expertise.

Cussler is a descriptive genius. He is able to paint a picture so well, you would swear you were there yourself. He is very descriptive, but not to the extent of what Tom Clancy does. I believe Clancy is a bit to heavy with his descriptions.

Another aspect which Cussler excels is his ability to make his characters seem so real. Literally, by the end of the book, you would think those characters are real and the events in the book really happened. I have not found another author who does as good of a job as Cussler does.

I would recommend that you start with his first book, The Mediterranean Caper first. The read each of his books in order that he wrote them. This is helpful in understanding the characters and their personality for first-time readers.
