Pros: Great Plots, keeps you in suspense

Joy Fielding is another of my favorite authors. She writes suspense novels about families and you enjoy the journey from beginning to end.
You feel like you are living the action along with the characters and it pulls at your emotions.

I would highly recommend all of her books that I have read. They are:

Good Intentions
Kiss Mommy Goodbye
See Jane Run
The Deep End
The Nanny
Tell Me No Lies

These novels have plots that you might see on the Lifetime network for women. I am not sure if men would care for such emotional books. I would suggest taking these books on vacation at the beach, for they are good "beach novels" even though they have nothing to do with the beach.
