We Need Some Good Old Family Values

Oct 05 '00

Our President, Bill Clinton, and his family have been accused of many crimes and immoral acts. We, the taxpayers spent $43,000,000 of our hard earned dollars over the last 4 years trying to convict them of something – anything. After all of that time and money we should rightfully be furious and NOT ONE THING HAS BEEN PROVEN.

We need some good old-fashioned values back in our government. Our next president will likely appoint 4 or 5 people to the Supreme Court. These judges will interpret our laws on issues such as whether disabled people should receive assistance to stay employed, parental rights (discipline, home schooling and such) abortion, guns and decide how criminals should be punished and numerous issues affecting our daily lives for many years to come.

Choose someone who will respect us as people, someone who understands that we work hard and that we pay for this government. Choose someone who will respect the social security that we have worked hard for all our lives and protect our rights to freedom of choice.

Fuzzy math has become a buzzword inn this election. Lets look at a little math. George W. Bush obtained financing for a baseball team, the Texas Rangers, in part by using loans provided by wealthy family friends. Then he got the people of Texas, the taxpayers, to pay for a new stadium. After that he sold the team and made lots and lots of money. That isn’t fuzzy math; it’s profit at our expense.

Dick Cheney understands math too. He has made millions of dollars in the gas and oil industry. The very same gas and oil that is costing us a mint today!! But, he opposed opening up the surplus oil to help lower the price and be sure there was enough heating oil for this winter. Yet he is willing to dig up the Alaskan tundra looking for a little oil and destroying the fragile ecology.

Cheney also voted against headstart funds for early education, consistently voted to restrict womens’ right to choose, but opposed waiting periods to buy guns. He opposed more funding for the Older Americans Act. Check his actual Congressional voting record – its all there. Family values!

How about George Bush, Senior? Remember “Read My Lips. No New Taxes?” We all know what happened after the election.

Regan’s close buddy, Oliver North, sold arms to Iran, which later held our people hostage. The money went to finance a war in Central America. Family values??!

Nixon authorized breaking into the Watergate Hotel to spy on his opposition. Then he erased a tape and shredded documents to cover up his crimes. Finally, when he was about to be impeached, he resigned and let several of his friends go to jail.

This is what we need – good family values. Newt Gingrich resigned as Speaker of the House when it was revealed that he was having an affair. His replacement, Henry Hyde, never even truly replaced him because he, too, was messing around. Yes, Bill Clinton fooled around too. I guess it doesn't matter what political party they belong to.

Al Gore may be really boring after all of this. He respects women’s rights enough to believe that our medical decisions belong between us and our doctors – not in a court of law. Gore has a financial plan that involves savings for the middle class without bankrupting the country. Joe Lieberman and Al Gore propose tax credits for stay-at-home moms and for people who save money. They want to develop alternative energy sources to reduce our dependence on oil. Both Gore and Lieberman have records of voting in favor of Medicare, they understand foreign affairs and are both seasoned representatives with enough understanding of the system to make things actually happen.

I’m voting for good family values – I’m voting Democratic this year.
