This is the best mystery series I have ever read!!! Not only are the characters great and interesting, the plots always engrossing, but also the history of the period is flawless. I love these book so much that I actually put off reading them until I have a block of free time so I can savor the experience, and then I only read one so I don't get through the series too quickly.
For those that know nothing of this series: The story follows Marcus Didius Falco, a private detective in ancient Rome during the reign of Vespasian, starting in 69 AD. Marcus loves the daughter of a nobleman and in order to marry her must make 400,000 to get his class raised. But being what he is there is little chance to make money. The best thing about this series is the way that each book connects. Though the plot line of each book is unique, with some connections from previous books, the subplots involving the characters are on-going. I feel like I'm visiting old friends when I open one of these books, like I'm catching up on what happened since the last time I was in town.
I cannot say enough good things about this series, but you don't have to listen to me. Go out and get the first one and read it for yourself. You will love it and you will want to get the next one. Go, right now, buy "Silver Pigs" and enjoy the best mystery series on the market.
