Sure, I couldn't get through the gardening season without the Sunset Western Gardening Annual. But, the gloomy, damp winter is when Ireally enjoy this book. It gives me a chance to dream and plan for the following year.
Sunset Western Gardening Annual is divided into several sections, the most obvious being the Western Plant Encyclopedia. Here you find a listing of over 6,000 plants from Aloysia triphylla to Zoysia. That's right, from A to Z. In this section you will find a description of western plants including the zone they live in, how much water the ned, and how much sun they like.
To go along with the encyclopedia Sunset Western Gardening Annual also has a Practical Gardening dictionary. Here you'll find everything from Acid soil to Whiteflies. That's right, once again, everything from A to... well... okay! Only A to W this time.
In addition to these sections they also have areas like the Visual Guide To Weed Identification, a resource section, and an area that shows what zone you live in.
And then there's my favorite section of the Sunset Western Gardening Annual, theGuide To Plant Selection. In this part of the book you will find lists of plants that will suit you for every need. You can find lists of fragrant plants, native plants, plants with colorful fruits and berries, plants for erosion control, plants to plant under oak trees, and even deer-resistant plants. And that's just a start!
I'd love to go on, but I really need to get back to my planning for next year. Hmmmm, let's see... ah, Plants That Attract Butterflies. That looks like something I'll have to add to the garden next year.
