I never actually watched General Hospital when Luke Spencer raped Laura Baldwin, a married teenager without a child. I started watching after that and remember missing a class in order to watch their wedding. That episode made TV history, all the...

Hey, sorry you got the wrong message. I tried to be as clear as possible that I do not approve of rape in any situation. The Luke and Laura saga is still going on today. They separated and are considering divorce, although you can tell they love each other in full awareness of their faults.

I know I'm not in your shoes. I'm sorry I upset you, but my point was that anything is possible. No insult intended.

I respect your right to your opinion, but I cannot believe that anyone still thinks that rape can be justified for any reason. I think that the whole Luke & Laura storyline is a disgrace, and was written at the time by mostly male writers.

"If that kind of passion becomes violent one night when the man thinks he will be killed in a few hours, I don't want to judge it as inappropriate reading material. In Laura's case, she understood why he became violent, forgave him and fell in love with him. Is that realistic?"

Ask anyone who's ever been raped, and the answer is NO. Ask anyone who has ever had a mother, sister, daughter who has been raped, and the answer is NO. Rape is NEVER about love, it's about power. And I think it IS inappropriate to perpetrate the myth that rape is a sexual act stemming from unrequited love.

It makes me sick to my stomach just thinking that anyone could walk away from the Luke and Laura saga and think that this could ever be something that would happen in real life, any more than split personalities or any of the other plot devices that soap operas use.

Again, you are entitled to express your opinion, but if you had any first hand experience with rape you would understand how deeply hurtful and ill informed others are going to find your words. I hope and pray this is not the case.
