Baby's First Book Club *Updated 11-2-00*

Apr 13 '00 (Updated Jun 09 '02)

The Bottom Line This is one Book Club that grows with your child!

**********Updated on 11-2-00***************
I have found a book club that not only helps my son learn, but helps me feel good about about what I am teaching him. I learned about Baby's First Book Club through a mailer I received from them. I usually don't respond to these things, but this one looked interesting. Here are the reasons why I joined, and why I am suggesting this club to all parents of babies and young children.

--You get the first book (an interactive Pooh cloth book), a book for mothers, baby foot rattles, a monthly age-appropriate newsletter, and a canister which tells you if a toy is too small for your baby free. All you pay is a $2.95 shipping and handling fee.

--You don't ever have to buy anything else. You can cancel at anytime, or mail back (for free) any books you don't want to keep. They give you an 800 number which you call if you don't want a book, then they mail you a postage stamp which you attach to the package, then mail it back-no charge.

--There are no cards to reply to. They automatically mail you a new book every month. If you don't want it, mail it back. If you want them more often, or less often, call them, and they will adjust to your needs.

--The books are age appropriate. They start out with cloth books that help stimulate young babies, then move up to cardboard books for older babies and so on. Some of the books even come with cute toys, or audio tapes that help the learning experience of each book.

--The books are not that expensive. The first book I received was called Faces. I normally would have paid at least $15 if not more for this book, if I had tried to buy it in a store. It was less than $12 through the book club.

--The books are great. They are put together well, and so far, my baby loves them. The Faces book has handles for him to hold on too. There's even a mirror on the back so he can look at his own face!

I have had no problems with this club so far. The items are well thought out, and very stimulating to a young child. It takes all the pressure off of me having to go to a bookstore and try to figure out what book would be appropriate for my child. And if I don't like a book, I don't have to pay for it. The club makes it easy to mail it back, at no charge to me. I hope all new parents reading this will check out Babies First Book Club. Anyone wanting more information can email me, and I will give you the 800 number.

Well, it's been 8 months since I've joined, and I'm still extremely pleased! Every book that I have received has been high quality. I have never once even thought about sending any books back. Each of the books are at a discount price, even though you still pay shipping and handling. That doesn't even include the little extras they send.

I have always received my books on time, about every three weeks. They even sent a special book in time for Halloween! I can't wait to see what they'll send at Christmas. Some of the books from Baby's First Book Club have become favorites of my son's. I have even written reviews on a few!

Some of my son's favorites:

--A series of Caillou books. These are based on the PBS children's show featuring the baby Caillou. The books were toddler sized, and made in the board book style. The best part is a small Caillou doll was included, so my son can "play" along while we read.

--Our son's first pillow is actually a book we got. It's a book about Amadeus, a white bear. The book is cloth, and puffy, and folds up to make a pillow. We also recently got another Amadeus book, this time with a small Amadeus doll to play with. The book is great, with lots of "touch and feel" pages! My son loves to feel the different materials they use in the story, especially the "boo" corderoy pants!

--Another favorite was our Wheels on the Bus book. The book is a cloth book, with real wheels that my son can move. If you've read other reviews of mine, you know that my son loves anything on wheels! There are also fun flaps to lift up and down, just like windows. The book also came with a tape to sing along with.

As you can see, Baby's First Book Club not only helps your child to learn about things, but it incorporates many interactive tools to help make learning fun. I have never been disappointed, and my son loves getting a new package every few weeks! The cost is very minimal, and less than what I would pay in the store. Why wouldn't you join something that can help a child learn so much? I'm sure glad I did!
