Barney is here for Halloween!!

Written: Oct 28 '00

Are your kids afraid to go to certain houses because of the way
they look? This book consists of two Halloween stories told by
our youngster's favorite character... Barney.

Barney, Baby Bop and B.J. will walk your child through both stories.
Making them want to go right along with them. After reading this book
to my son he wanted to go Trick-Or-Treating right away.

The illustrations in this book by Bill Alger and Darren McKee are outstanding. They are so full of color and life, keeps the childrens' attention. The one thing we look for in a book. The front cover has Barney in a Cowboy's hat holding a trick-or-treat bag with a jack-o-lantern on it in the other hand he holds a flash light.

The first story is Trick or Treat, this is a story about how B.J. and Baby Bop don't want to go to a scary looking house. (My son would probably say a ghost or a monster lives there. Anyone else?) The three are getting their costumes on. (Who will be what?) Bags become quite full of candy until a dog rips a hole in Baby Bops. There is only one more house when they realize Baby Bop has none. The house is huge, (like a mansion) far from the road, gated, and lights are all on. No one is going near this house. Will they? B.J. says, "The house looks sort of spooky."

Finally getting the courage they go up and knock, they find out it is their old friends Mr. and Mrs. Brown. Mrs.Brown even fills up Baby Bop's bag.

I believe this story can teach your child not to judge by sight alone.

The second story is Halloween Party, this is about Barney's Party. This story seems to rhyme, which most children love.

"Once a year on Halloween night,
Pumpkins and scarecrows come into sight.

There are spiders and ghosts
To decorate the room.
Barney better hurry,
His friends are coming soon."

The pictures show everything in this little rhyming verse, plus streamers or orange and black. As you turn the pages you will find different types of costumes from princesses to clowns. Barney carves a pumpkin, stuffs a scarecrow and even dances to the music. After the party they all go trick-or-treating.

If you needed ideas for a party there are a few. I know I'll be using some. :)

Hope you enjoyed.
