Anne Tyler takes a typical post-adolescent man ( read irresponsible, carefree etc.) and throws at him babies and relatives' deaths and spins a story that is very sweet and uplifting. The only minor flaw in this book is that as in much of Tyler.. the resolutions are a tad creaky. She takes a great deal of time making sure the reader grasps how unable to deal with "life" issues said main character is.. but then she has him handle everything with such relative aplomb it makes it a tad difficult to buy upon close analysis..yet the book is still a lovely winner, and no one should be disappointed.
