Define convenience

Jan 05 '01

Book clubs bait new members with 4 free books and think they offer one surefire benefit: convenience. Going to the bookstore is a pleasure for me. Returning negative option cards is an inconvenience. I also like to browse, which can only be done at the bookstore. Prices are discounted everywhere and frankly, a good book is worth full price anyway. Buying one in person also ensures you get one without a torn just jacket or bent corners. Mailing back an unwanted or damaged book is an inconvenience. Book clubs that don't find a way to offer more true member benefits will go out of business in the near future.
