Pros: use of language, depth of character and plot development, good use of history in his books Cons: sometimes a "love him or hate him" type of writer, sometimes one-dimensional

Pros: more real than real, fascinating Cons: self-conceited, politically unconfortable
Ellroy wrote this novel when already very famous. With it, he tries to rise from the classical mystery book to dig into the heart of the American history and into "the" man of American history: John Kennedy.
