FAST, Very FAST!!

Written: Nov 27 '00
  • User Rating: Excellent
  • Quality of Tech Support:
Pros:Fast, Company Reputation
Cons:A bit pricey, broke after 4 days

Wanting nothing but the fastest, top-of-the-line pc, I selected it, as I do not want to upgrade in less than 4 or 5 years.

Who would benefit:
Any one into extreme 3-d gaming, digital photography, digital music creation or cd burning.

Why I choose this product over the competition:
Price, Performance for the $$, Gateway's reputation as a reliable computer and previous Gateway pc's purchased (2).

I purchased it fully loaded in September 2000.
I did not even have the pc for more that 4 days and it completely went dead on me. I called the 800 help line; digging thru about 10 menus deep before getting a live tech that said it was a power supply problem. They sent a new power supply, with out installation instructions. Luckily I have built & repaired pc's before for other, so this was not a problem. That was NOT what was wrong. Called the 800 help line again, suspecting that the problem was the "MOTHER BOARD." Got a tech that agreed with me & sent a new board with replacement instructions. But 3 days later my pc refused to turn off automatically at shutdown. Called the help line for the 3rd time, and found out that the problem is a conflict between Windows ME power management & the pc's own BIOS power management. Was advised and walked thru all the needed steps to change and or disable ALL power management settings (Windows & Bios). It has worked perfectly ever since.

Accessories included/purchased with pc:
It has a 1100 AMD Processor, 128MB RAM, 41 GIG Hard Drive, CD/DVD Player, CD ROM/RW Burner, NVIDIA 3D GEOFORCE Video Card w/64MB High Speed Video RAM, 56K Modem, 3-COM 10/100 Network Card, 17 Inch Flat Screen Monitor, BOSTON ACOUSTICS DIGITAL BA735 Speakers. Also purchased same time was an APC BACK-UPS Pro 500 battery backup unit, CANON BJC 3000 Color Ink-jet, 1 year of unlimited gateway learning classes & On-site Service (in case something "broke" I could not or did not want to try and "fix" myself.)
