Pros: Smart, inexpensive, well supported, sturdy, easy to install, short learning curve
Cons: Mouse worthless. Also, not quite as sensitive or integrated as I would like it to be in PhotoShop.

| saraarts's Full Review: Wacom Graphire Pen & Mouse Set |
A little secret about this fabulous product: You don't need to replace your mouse or trackball with it in order to maximize the joy you can get from it. Well, okay, it's not a secret; I wrote to the company and asked about this before I bought it.
And this brings me to another reason to buy this thing: customer service. A company representative got right back to me and answered all my questions. I looked at every other available product of its type quite carefully before purchasing the Graphire, and Wacom was the only company that even deigned to respond to any of my technical queries. Wacom also offers free tips newsletters, to which I was able to subscribe long before even purchasing the product.
The mouse that ships with the Graphire is indeed useless, as others here have noted. But if you already have an input device you like, and if you have enough ports, it doesn't matter. You can do what I do: use the trackball or mouse you already have to point and click (especially double-click, which is a drag -- literally -- with the pen, no matter how precisely you set it) while you're surfing or managing your data or doing some non-art task, and then just use the pen for the art stuff like drawing directly into any vector-based drawing application or digitally retouching photos pixel-by-pixel in any image-editing tool.
The best thing about this tool is that you can customize it to your own touch, and you can even customize it to respond differently for each application with which you use it. The freedom is heady.
A note about gift potential: None of the categories below describe anyone to whom I would give the Graphire. It's something that I'd only give to someone who creates or manipulates digital art on a regular basis.
