It's NOT WORTH the cheap price.

My wife bought an EMachine as our first computer for our home. We own a small business, and have had 5 computers or more for years in our business. She was attracted to the EMachine at Frye's Electronics because of the demonstration, appearance, and mainly price after rebates.
The EMachine set up easily when she got it home, and it worked very well for about 5 months. We set up an Internet account through EarthLink, which is the primary reason we got a computer for home use, and it was all good until the power supply quit working.

EMachine DOES NOT provide customer support. EMachine hires a company called SYKES to try and help the people who bought one of it's computers if they don't work. Sykes won't let you talk to EMachine and only can do certain things that it's allowed to do by its contract with EMachine, and NO MORE than that. If your EMachine fails, you may never have the use of it again.

You must call SYKES LONG DISTANCE AT YOUR expense to even start the VERY LONG and exasperating process of trying to get your EMachine to function correctly.

They said they'd send me a new power supply. They didn't. When I called, at my expense, after 2 weeks, they told me they didn't have any of the power supply units that they promised me, and they agreed to replace my whole tower. I had to UPS them, AT MY EXPENSE, my tower...which I did in one day. I was promised by SYKES that my replacement EMachine would be back to me before Christmas since we were leaving that next week for a week. You got it!. No delivery until the week we were gone, then 3 deliveries that we couldn't receive. The replacement machine went back to SYKES.

6 weeks after they promised to send a new power supply, we received a FACTORY RECONDITIONED replacement machine WITH A FAULTY MODEM. When we couldn't connect to the Internet, I called SYKES. Sykes told me that EMachine's orders to them is that they cannot help me figure out how to get the modem to work without CHARGING US $20. Out of the box, their machine won't function, and they want their customer to pay $20. to get help so their machine will function. The box had a big notice that said free 15 day technical support, but the SYKES person on the phone said he couldn't honor that as his orders were to charge $20. or refuse help. I don't know how much I've spent in long distance charges, but it's a lot.

So, we haven't been able to use the EMachine since before November 26, 1999, and counting. I've found the phone number for EMachine and intend to call them Monday, January 17, 2000. I may contact the Attorney General's office for some help. I refuse to pay money to a company for them to help me make their product work out of the box. I don't appreciate lack of interest in their customer's ability to use their product the way it was intended. I'd tell you the model, but I'm writing this from my office since......MY EMachine STILL DOESN'T WORK.
