| camarocks's Full Review: Hi-Val 4X4X24 EIDE CD-RW |
I had been wanting to buy a CD writer for a long time, but was discouraged by the cost of most models ($200 and up). I saw the Hi-Val 4x4x24 writer on sale at Circuit City for $129.99. I was skeptical about the name, as it wasn't one I had heard of before. Installation was a snap, by the way this is an internal drive. A few screws and IDE cables later, it was installed and ready to go. Windows automatically detected it, but just in case, you can still use "add or remove hardware" in the control panel.
The installation CD provided was a piece of cake. I just put it in my pre-existing CD drive, answered a few of the usual copyright prompts and I was on my way. The software part of the installation took no more than 3 minutes.
I have been collecting Napster files, and was dying to make a few CDs. This writer will write writeable CDs as well as rewriteable CDs. The package included a free CD-RW. The steps you take to burn a CD are very straightforward, even an idiot could figure it out. The burning process itself was simple and in about 15 minutes I had burnt a full length CD that played very crisply. For the Hi-Val 4x4x24 being just about the most inexpensive burner out there, you can't beat it.
