Good CD-RW for laptops
Written: Apr 02 '00
Pros:Compact, Lightweight. Uses SCSI interface.
Cons:Currently (4/1/2000) no Win 2000 support
I've used my KXL-RW10A for four months now, on four different systems running Win 95, Win 98 and Win NT 4. It's always worked great. With the included card it is fastest under Win 98 though, because here you can use CardBus mode.
I particularly like the SCSI PC Card that comes with this drive. It supports both 16-bit and 32-bit (CardBus) modes which gives you both wide compatibility and fastest speed where available. The fact that the drive connects to the laptop over a standard SCSI-2 bus means that I've been able to use the card with other SCSI devices as well, and that I've been able to connect the to other machines (i.e. desktops) that have SCSI interfaces. Some other laptop CD-RW drives use proprietary interfaces that are much more limited.
