Several weeks ago I gave Netzero a rave review here on epinions.com, but I think I spoke to soon.
I received an email yesterday from their director of operations and he informed me that effective after the first of the year that Netzero would be limited to 40 hours per month, and if you wanted to use anymore time you will be charged $9.95 a month for their premium service. Figure it out, 40 hours a month-that amounts to exactly 1 hour and 2 minutes! That is not enough to read the Wall Street Journal!
I am so tired of these "free" services saying "free UNLIMITED" internet for "LIFE" when they are marketing, then they go an pull the plug on that idea as soon as they get millions of subscribers. They find out that they are actually loosing money, so they turn the screws in on their subscribers, that is not good business.
The zeroport will still be showing even with the premium service, so why would you want to pay for ads, there are hundreds of providers, who, for only a couple more dollars will give you ad-free internet service. The fact of the matter is, that free internet services dont work, and Netzero is finding it out. My question is, how much longer after they start charging, will it be before they fold up for good? Probably not long.
If you surf under 40 hours per month, then continue to use it because it is not bad. If you surf for more than 40 hours per month as I do, break down and pay the $20. It's worth it.
