| JoshDunk's Full Review: Micron Millenia Max 533 |
For my college computer I decided to buy a Micron. I chose this out of Dell, Gateway, and Micron because it was clearly the most bang for the buck. It was about 100 dollars cheaper than a similar Dell and about 200 dollars less than a similar Gateway. I configured it with an 866 processor, 128 megs of 133 mhz SDram, a 30 gig hard drive, a 12x DVD drive, a 32 meg geForce 256 video card, a 17in Micron Ex monitor, a 100 meg zip drive, and the basic Altec Lansing ACS21W speakers. I ordered it direct from the Micron website. They sent me one auto confirmation and said they'd send an e-mail from sales rep in 2 business days with the order number. However, this did not happen. I called on the third business day and it actually shipped! This was great, but if I had wanted to cancel the order, it would have been a hastle. Either way I tracked it all the way from Idaho to New York and it arrived about 2 weeks after the order was placed.
Setting up the Micron was no problem at all, although I have been using comptuers for 10 years and I don't know if my experiences helped. All the plugs were color coded though, and the shipment was well organized into software, hardware, and documentation.
The system started up fine and I began customizing immediately. I previously owned a Compaq AMD K6-2 400 with 64 megs of RAM and this system crushes it! Where I previously had to dramatically decrease details and resolution to play games on my Compaq, I set all my games for maximum graphics and maximum resolution and they run so smooth without missing a beat.
There was no software included other than Microsoft Office smallbiz 2000, Norton AntiVirus 2000, and software to run DVDs and the rest of the hardware. I was expecting some small demos or little things to use if I didn't have any software already. However, in retrospect, this was a good thing. Since I had a lot of software to transfer from my old comptuer, anything that would have been pre-installed would have just taken up space and I would have never used it.
I have had my Micron for a week and have no complaints. Nor do I expect to have any in the years to come. Its a wonderful system with everything I want. The only bad thing that I can say is that the case is huge. Its a tower literally about twice the size of my Compaq's tower. This case can be upgraded a lot though, so in the future I'll probably thank Micron for making my computer with such room for expansion. I highly recommend buying a Micron Millenia Max.
