I am dealing with life on my own for the very first time. However, I got a wake up call to this fact when I got my first phone bill to home. At that point, I decided that it was time for me to do something about it so where did I turn? To the people at Epinions of course. It was here that I found out about PC telephony. Here's what I found.
First I tried Dialpad. It was OK but the connection would get choppy and it was hard to understand through a lot of internet feedback. So I tried MyfreeLD and MAN was I impressed. The clarity was so good that I felt that I was talking on the phone instead of through a little headset on my computer. There were very few cut-outs and my parents could even yell at me simultaneously without feedback getting in the way. This is a great program.
I was also impressed with my ability to open other windows without sacrificing the integrity of the LD connection. With other programs I have tried, opening a seperate window resulted in an even more fuzzy connection than achieved previously.
Don't get me wrong, if Internet traffic is high (say for example on Saturday mornings and afternoons) or your modem isn't connecting very quickly, the connection may not be crystal clear but it will still beat out most of the other programs on the market.
The trick behind MyFreeLD is that it works in conjunction with Microsoft NetMeeting to create a clear connection. Most of the other PC telephony programs use only the internet connection and the online program to work. The combination is really a winner.
I would easily recommend this product to anyone who is looking to slice their long distance phone bills. It's simple, free and only takes the $20 investment of a nifty "operators-are-standing-by" headset available at any computer retailer. Check it out and let me know what you think!
