So I'm sitting in my chair at the office debating on whether or not to get a laptop or a Palm Pilot...
I DID wind up buying the laptop (a shiny new iBook) but I got a catalog from PC Connection a few weeks later advertising a Palm IIIe Special Edition for $189.95. Being the conspicuous consumer that I am, I phoned my order in and had it the next day.
Note that the my buyer's remorse had already set in before I even got the thing. I get it and it's very sleek and very cool. The Special Edition touts a clear case, similar to that of the i-series of products from mac.
I get started on it and find it quite user friendly. I still have doubts about how much I'll actually use it.
Skip ahead a month. I misplace my Palm Pilot. The day is a wreck. My girlfriend calls me at the office and says something's beeping in her purse. It was my Palm Pilot reminding me about a lunch meeting I was supposed to be at! My point being, I can't live without the thing now. I liken it to forgetting your watch and looking at your bare arm all day long suddenly realizing how much you use it.
On a less positive note, the Palm IIIe doesn't interface directly with Outlook like the newer Palms do. But you can buy a 3rd party solution to bridge between the two, but it'll cost you from $25-50 to do so. It is worth it though.
All in all, I endorse the Palm IIIe 100%. It has proven to be an indispensable tool that I can't function correctly without. And I do use it more than the iBook.
