Pros: A lot of expandability, but enough firepower to not even need it

| Babycarrots's Full Review: HP Pavilion XE746 PC |
I have always heard that the best time to buy a computer is tomorrow. Figuratively speaking it means that with every passing day something bigger and faster and stronger and better is released. I am a diehard HP owner and user, as I will always be. And I am very pleased with my Pavilion that I have had for over a year now. But this weekend I got the opportunity to lay hands on a lot newer model, and it simply blew my mind!
HP Pavillion XE746 PC
If you have ever wanted a computer than can do it all, this is what you are looking for. Every facility of this system is well designed with lots of room left for expansion and versatility. Even as it comes this computer has the capability to perform any function that you might ask of it, and quite likely a little more.
So what makes this computer so great?
Everything about this computer makes it great. I guess I will start from the outside and work my way in. A very stylish look using a blend of the traditional grey cases mixed with black across the front. The external speakers sit easily upon a computer desk, or anywhere else you would like for them to be. Standard keyboard and mouse provide plenty of functionality and has never given me a problem at all. The mini tower case if fantastic for placement underneath a computer desk, as I have done, and you can't even tell it is there. Which is a big help cause the mini tower takes up little to no space, with a little creativity of its placement.
Easy to use buttons on the front side of the HP monitor makes for easy adjustment of view settings along with the power switch. And of course, a very clean, crisp picture from within.
Standard 3.5 in floppy drive and DVD drive help enhance the output of this computer.
Now the meat and potatoes of this system. The 667 mhz processor creates one quick work enviroment. I can honestly tell a major difference between this machines output and my 233 at home. 64 MB of Ram help drive this machine quickly through internet pages both forward and back. A great addition to the machine is to upgrade that upon purchase. It makes it easier to run multiple programs along with storing web pages easier.
The 30 gig Harddrive is truly a monster. I have never even considered having that much HD in my system, but they just throw it in. 30 g is so much I can not even imagine using that much space. Where that does help a lot though is if you are an avid collector of MP3's or you do a lot of photography work, both of which require a good amount of hard disk space.
What about the service and convienence of this computer?
HP has made a name for themselves based mainly upon making a great computer and then having the pride to back them. Not only do they offer a great warranty of part and labor for the first year, and even on-site assistance, but a great technical support system. Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week they are there to offer you answers to any questions you may have concerning your Pavillion. Now the drawback to this is that the phone line is not a toll free call. But even on a 30 minute call you are still saving much more than what a local computer store would run you for the same assistance. Besides, there you are talking to the same people who designed the machine, and will be getting help "straight from the horses mouth".
Time to change my Christmas wish list!
This machine is truly a great gift for any family. The price is excellent at an MSRP of about 1100. After looking around online I have found the same computer for less than a 1000.00, which really is a steal. Anytime I purchase a new HP product I feel very secure in that I made a smart purchase, and I am sure you will feel the same. I would highly recommend the purchase of any HP product to anyone, especially this Pavillion series which still continues to impress me.
