I recently purchased a HP Pentium 2 550 MHZ computer with 96 mb of RAM and a 16 gig hard drive. It came with a no name 3D Accelerator card that did basicaly nothing for game acceleration.
I did my homework on several video cards, and learned that Creative Lab's 3D Annihilator Pro was the number 1 choice by several magazines. I decided to get it based on all of it's good reviews.
After a complicated installation process, I got the card working. I tested its capabilities on Microsoft's Flight Simulator 2000, and got an amazing 120 frames per second (FPR). This was an awesome improvement compared to an FPR of 5 with my old card. I found that the video card handled moderatly complicated games very well with great FPRs. The games usually did not require a patch to work with the card.
I began testing my new card with more complicated games such as Jane's F/A 18 fighter simulation. F/A 18 is a very complicated, realistic game, that required a 3D card to even run. On bringing up the program, the card set my display to "Out of Range", and displayed several blurred lines accross the entire screen which completly cluttered the screen. To get out of this screen, I ended up having to reboot.
I have encountered this same problem many times in several other high-tech, complicated games. I reccomend this card to anyone that is good with computers and has patience to work with problems. I suspect that the problem is that the card is too new for most games, and simply need a patch to solve the problem.
