Traveling with ThinkPad
Mar 18 '00
Going through the airport x-ray machines with a laptop in your backpack is a whole lot of trouble. Right after I bought my second IBM Thinkpad I took it on a long flight to Asia. When I tried to go through the airports leaving and arriving I had to turn on the machine a total of three times for the staff to make sure it didn't contain anything dangerous.
When I finally arrived in Seoul, Korea I discovered that the brand new hard drive on my brand new computer had died and needed to be replaced but the warranty wasn't good in that country.
I made many long distance phone calls before I was advised to return the laptop to the store where I bought it (impossible) or to IBM (who would pay the postage?)
My new computer was unusable for the next five months.
