Startdrive is a small utility(494 Kb w/install) from Headlight Software, the same people who gave us the Mercedes of download managers, Getright. When you run it the first time you get a simple GUI that shows you a tree of all your drives, then allows you to select the drives and directories/folders/files you would like quick access to, though you can modify, add, and delete later. To delete from Startdrive, right click on the start button, click open, double click "startdrive", and delete from there. The fastest way to add directories/folders/files is to right click on the one(s) you want while in Windows Explorer, then click "Add to Startdrive".
Once configured, one click shows all the selected drives, directories/folders/files with cascading menus for each drive. Your next click will open any one of those instantly. If you have Windows Explorer, from which Startdrive runs, you know how aggravating it can be searching your drive for a directory/folder/file. Now you can easily configure Startdrive to show those that you use most often in an instant.
There really isn't much to say about Startdrive since all it does is exactly what I described, nothing more. Is it convenient, is it a timesaver, and does it function well, the answer is a resounding YES! It's available as a free download to try at http://www.getright.com, and if you decide to keep it, the cost is $10.00 to get rid of the ads. Unless you're really financially challenged, I suggest you support the makers of shareware so they can keep bringing us useful software. If you have Win 95, be sure you download version 1.0.5 and visit the tech support page (which consists of a picture of Startdrive and about four paragraphs of instructions) for more information. I have had it for about three months, and have found it to be one of those little gems I wonder how I did without.
