Small profile unique advantage

Written: Jan 06 '01
Pros:A truly wearable device, easy to use
Cons:Somewhat fragile, must protect screen

The Rex Pro 5 (5000)is the third unit of this type that I have owned. The small profile (credit card size - I can carry it in my pocket) keeps me attached to this technology. Most PDA's are simply too bulky unless you carry an attache or laptop.

One caveat is that the screen is fragile so you have to be diligent about protecting it with its hard plastic storage case. Once the screen is bent, flexed or impacted beyond a critical limit, the screen will fail. Beyond this one vulnerability, the Rex is a fantastic organizer.

I put all kinds of data into the Rex including the usual calendar, phone book and to-do stuff but also memos and definitions and text that I need to have readily available. Windows text can be used to easily cut and paste into the accompanying software application. I use the docking station with my desktop computer and download rapidly and flawlessly. You can find highly discounted prices on units that are about ready to give way to a successor model.

The Rex Pro 5000 can currently be purchased for under $60 since the 6000 is about to hit the street.
