AAAHHHHH!!!!!!! 3 HOURS AGO!!!!! IT’S 11 AM!!!
In this situation … you had better hope that at some point you installed a version of Microsoft Word onto your computer … ‘cause if you didn’t, you’re in a world of hurt. What the heck is MS Word and why should it be important to you? Let’s find out.
What is Microsoft Word, and where can I get it?
Microsoft Word is a word processing program. Think of it as a super-enhanced version of Word Pad. The version that I will be reviewing today is MS Word 97, but most versions of the software have most of the same features. Sure, MS Word 2000 would be better for those using it as an element in website maintenance or design, but the basic idea is the same. Microsoft created a product that will allow the average user to create professional quality documents, easily and quickly.
Now-a-days most new computers come equipped with some basic Microsoft software, mainly Microsoft Office, which includes MS Excel, Power Point, Access and Word. Pick it up at a local Best Buy store or another trusted software dealer.
I would like to note that you **could** borrow a copy of it from a friend and install it on your computer because it does not require a disk to run … but this is illegal, and stealing. >cough< from the richest guy in the world >cough<
What can Word help me do?
Any version of Word was created for one sole purpose … to improve the quality of your life. “WHAT?” you ask … sure … MS makes products they know you will buy by making them so useful and easy to operate, you will have to continue to use their products. Let’s take a look at some of the neat features included with MS Word.
This ain’t no freakin’ Harry Potter. What are “Wizards” and templates?
These are really helpful in the heat of battle when time is of the essence. If you begin a document by typing Dear _____, It will immediately ask you if you want to write a letter with the use of a Wizard. With a Wizard you answer a few questions and presto, it makes the document you had in mind come to life in minutes.

Spell check is EXTREAMLY useful when time is short. Remember back in the old days when you had to think to be able to type… MS took all the brain work out! All you have to be able to do is determine what the correct spelling of a word should look like and select it from a list.
Auto Correct can also help with little spelling errors such as when you type t-e-h instead of the … it corrects it for you with out you even having to think. The fun starts when t-e-h is really what you wanted to type…
A picture is worth at least 1,000 words …
Insert picture is a neat feature that allows you to insert clip art or GIF/jpeg/bitmap images into your document. This is great for in-depth reports or flyers.

Word Count is a sweet feature. Instead of COUNTING every word for a school or college report … just click the button and presto. It gives you an in-depth analysis of the words in your report.
Word Art - Nothing spices up a dry document like a nice piece of Word Art. I bet you never realized that MS Word could double as a graphics program … but low and behold … it can.
Export as HTML - Although the HTML produced by early versions of Word stank … it is improving. I would still stick to a “Dreamweaver” type application, but just the fact that “Export as HTML” is an option is cool in my books.
FELLOW EPINIONS MEMBERS - Write your reviews in Word first before submitting to the site. Not only will you be able to correct any errors before they go public … you can get a word count and make sure that the review lives up to your length standards.
Rememeber … MS always wants you to keep the registration number you get with the software to prevent piracy … supposedly. Make sure to keep that number handy if Word every needs to be re-installed.
