I've had my own home page for about 4 year at GeoCities, and in that time I've used 3 HTML editors. The first was Netscape Gold 2.0, this started me on my way to being a "web weenie". It allowed me to graphically place items, and view the HTML to see what was going on. My second editor was MS ActiveX Control Pad, this is basically a Notepad type editor. Finally I switched to FrontPage 2000, man I wish I had shifted to it months ago. The ease of the GUI is real nice but some of the initial file layout is confusing.
One thing I did wrong to start is copy all my files to the _Private directory, big mistake as when you publish it's just that PRIVATE. So moved things around, and published. This thing went through and copied all the changed files over, erased the previous Private stuff, and told me everything went fine. Now maintenance is a snap, and adding pictures and pages are done with real ease.
Getting back to the WYSIWYG interface, it let me look at the changes, and then I can switch to HTML mode to do some serious hacking. All in all I'm very pleased with the product.
