I have been a fan of Abit motherboards for a while now, so not to much surprise when I needed one for a simple over clocking experiment I went with a Abit board known for its stability. I decided to get this particular board after reading a private testers (crash test) results. This man did some crazy stuff like dropping the motherboard while hooked up an running. Anyway he had some great results from this board, and I decided to check it out for myself.
I ordered the motherboard from a company online (www.motherboardsolutions.com which has since jacked up all their prices and now it looks like they may be out of business) for $130 with a Celeron 466Mhz, not a bad deal earlier this year.
I rigged my case up with a total of 7 fans, and had only the essentials inside. Also the cables were all bundled up neatly for my experiment. I found the hardware monitoring system an excellent way to monitor the over clocking. It has Fan speed, voltages, temperature, and a thermal header for your CPU, or anywhere you want to put it.
Although I only over clocked the Celeron 466Mhz to 543Mhz, I know I can do better, as the system is just as stable now as it was running at 466Mhz. Maybe someday I will dare to push it further.
I have had no problems with the board...and I simply love the Soft MenuII in the BIOS. As for compatibility problems...none. I have had Linux Mandrake 7.1, Windows98SE, and Windows2000 with only a problem detecting the sound card using Linux.
Overall I think this is a great board for the price!
