| epinionsuser's Full Review: Palm m100 Personal Organizer |
With the start of college this fall I found myself to be like every other stereotypical college student...unorganized and tired. I knew that I needed to change some of my horrible habits so I bought a Palm m100 to help myself get organized. I'm far impressed with today's changing technology and from what I had heard this was one of the best palm organizers on the market. So far it succeeds my expectations.
Convenience
The Palm m100 is very small and compact. It is small enough to fit in the back pocket of jeans or in the front pocket of most shirts. The Palm weighs approximately 5 oz. and has dimensions of about 4" by 3" so you can picture how small it is. The Palm includes every application that is needed to keep organized. It comes with an address book, date book, clock, to do list, memo pad, note pad, and a calculator. With 2MB of memory you are able to store up to 1,000 addresses, 1,000 dates, 1,000 things to do, and 1,000 notes and memos without even slowing down the OS. The Palm also comes with several convenient snap on plates to change the color of the face. The options are red, two shades of blue, gold, and silver.
Some more convenient features are included in the date book. It allows you to store meetings and get togethers for up to five years. You should never miss a meeting when you're carrying a Palm m100. When that light bulb goes off in your head that's telling you of a bright idea there is no longer a need to search for pencil and paper; all you have to do is pull out your Palm m100 and jot down a simple note. It saves time and also keeps you from losing your bright idea. You can also compose e-mail in this section of the Palm. Speaking of e-mail, with an optional third party software you are able to download your e-mail directly from your PC for your review. The Palm comes equipped with a Find feature that allows for easy searching through addresses and dates. There are also five easy ways to enter your data into your Palm
1. On-screen keyboard
2. Graffiti writing
3. Write with the included pen in your own handwriting
4. Type from your PC
5. The optional Palm keyboard.
The convenience is first noticed as soon as you turn on your Palm. I was welcomed with a message from Palm offering to walk me through the whole process of setting up the Palm. It walked me through the whole process and it couldn't have been made any easier. After going through the tutorial I never had to touch the manual. It was that simple.
Requirements and Support
The operating system that comes standard on the m100 is the Palm OS v3.5. For use with a PC you must have the following requirements:
• IBM-compatible 486 PC or higher w/Windows 95/98/2000/NT/ME or
Macintosh Power PC running OS 7.5.3 or later.
• One available serial port
• 64MB recommended for Windows Programs
• 6MB free RAM for Macintosh
Some of these requirements require optional equipment in order to be met. This is my only complaint about the Palm...you have to keep buying accessories in order to maintain the requirements. The support for the m100 is great. There is a 24 hour 1-800 number you can call any time you have questions. There is also a convenient website that you can access through the Palm itself if you so please to get help and support. You can also extend the warranty when purchasing this Palm. This includes product repair for very little cost, a one year extension over the manufacture warranty, easy return policy, and a protection plan for your Palm. This is a great thing to have if your clumsy like me and tend to drop things quite often. Palm's are not made to be dropped by no means. If you so wish to register your product there is a very convenient website (listed in the manuals with your Palm) that you can access to register your Palm. You can even access it on the Palm itself.
There are a few games that come on this Palm as well. This is great when you're sitting in class or in a meeting listening to the boring professor or boss rant away about your assignment or new associate plan. You can look like you're taking very important lecture notes but in reality you're really playing one of the great games included with this Palm.
The screen is very easy to read and to see. I've heard stories of people that have owned other handheld organizers who say they can't read their display when they are not in the proper lighting. The Palm m100 is the exact opposite. The display can be viewed in any light except night of course. There is no glare on the screen except occasionally when you go outside.
If you sometimes feel yourself out of place and unorganized then I would suggest buying a cheap and inexpensive Palm m100. For the price of $149 you get all of the above listed information but the long term results are so much more rewarding. Thank all of guys for sticking with me while I've been gone. Now I'm back and better than ever. Keep on writing and reading! :)
