| mattyork28's Full Review: Memorex CD-ROM drives |
I bought my Memorex 40X CDROM about three months ago and have not had any problems so far. The reason I bought the Memorex is because I needed to replace my old CDROM that finally quit working. I choose the Memorex strictly on price. I figured it wouldn't be too long until I buy a brand new computer so I didn't want to buy an expensive CDROM now, only to replace it in a couple months.
As I said, the Memorex was relativily inexpensive compared to other CDROMs. I believe I payed about $40 total from an online site that was having a special. Other similar CDROMs were $10-$20 more then what I paid for the Memorex.
Installation was easy. I consider myself somewhat knowledgable with computers so installation seemed really easy to me. Someone with limited knowledge of computers might have a more difficult time with installation. Once installed, Windows detected the new hardware without any problems and did the rest of the software installation. Within a few minutes the CDROM was up and running and I was able to play music CDs and install programs off CDROMs.
The only problem I had with the CD player was the noise. I found that the CD player is very noisy when you first put in the disc and while it is scanning the disc. This can be distracting if you are listening to music or writing a paper on your computer. This is the only problem I had with the CDROM so far. I have played "burned cds" on it with no problem. I mention this because other CDROM drives do not have the capability to play some versions of burned cds.
If you're looking for a relativily cheap CDROM, the Memorex is a good choice. If you are looking for something of high quality and the best on the market, I suggest you look elsewhere.
