Pros:Its free, has an address book and you can choose the pad you like
Cons:is not always clear, you can lose connection if computer freezes, have to be tied to computer to use it.
Well, when you hear that when something seems too good to be true it usually is, that is not always the case. Dialpad.com is really free.
You might be asking how can this be? Well, so am I. I don't really know exactly how they can offer all of this long distance for free with just a few banner adds on your computer but they do.
I could not believe it when my dad called me and told me he could call me from Maine to Washington State for free! If anything was going to put me in divorce court it was going to be my very high phone bills.
I am very close to my family and I call almost daily to talk to my parents. This was resulting in about $200 phone bills every month and my dear husband was starting to lose patients with me. I thought my dad was joking around when he called and he told me where to go to sign up for this wonderful gift from above.
In a few minutes time I was up and running but our conservation sounded more like Hi --- and ---. H-w are --- doi-g --day. That was supposed to be Hi Mom and Dad. How are you doing today? It was worse than my reception from my cell phone which will have to be another epinion in the future. My Mom kept complaining that she could not hear me and that when she spoke to me she kept hearing everything she said in an echo.
Dialpad took no time at all to sign up for. You just have to fill in your info like name, address, etc and a password. You have an address on Dialpad that you can put the people you want to be calling and their phone numbers, address and email addresses. It also lets you choose the look of your phone front to fit a style you like.
Well, back to the actual phone calls because no matter how many neat features it has if it does not do what its supposed to what good is it?
I am not saying that Dial pad does not work it just has a few bugs in it. I was able to get rid of the echo for my mother by getting a pair of earphones with a microphone so that was good. If you adjust the volume on the earphones and microphone you can get a pretty good reception some of the time. At other times the entire conversation is hit or miss words on both ends and its very hard to follow the conversation that way free or not.
I have had times I have shut it off and called the person back with my regular phone so we could actually hear what the other was saying.
Now you are probably saying to me that you get what you pay for well, that is not really true for this one. I am paying nothing and I have had some really clear connections that had no problems.
You also have the option to call Pc to Pc with dialpad that is free to anyone with a computer where calling computer to phone is only for the US and Canada.
My sister and I have used this feature a few times and just like the phone sometimes it works fine and other times you have to give up or go crazy trying to understand what language the person on the other end may be speaking because it does NOT sound like English.
As with most things there are things you like about them and things you don't. As I have mentioned before the reception can be hit or miss so that can fall both in the good and bad. I like the address book feature and the fact that I can pick the color of my phonepad. I like the fact that I can make phone calls when I am working on line but this is also a bad point.
When my computer freezes up I lose the person I am talking to. And when I call from my computer I am stuck right here at my computer. Its much easier for a mom with five kids to call on a mobile phone. I find myself still picking up the regular phone when I am cooking dinner so that I can get two things done at the same time.
So there you have it the good the bad and the freeness of Dialpad.com. For someone that really has to talk long distance and does not have much money this might just be the thing that you are looking for. In my opinion its at least worth giving a try.
