| wmonger's Full Review: Palm IIIe Personal Organizer |
Being a sales guy that lives out of the car and has customer contact list in the 400-500 range, I really needed a way to have addresses & phone numbers at my fingertips. I have a laptop with ACT! on it to keep track of my contacts, but it's a pain to pull into a parking lot, get out the laptop and boot up ACT! just to get a phone number. Printing an address book from ACT! is doable but is time consuming and always out of date.
Enter the Palm IIIe ! It synchronizes with ACT! so all I needed to do was download the appropriate, free SW from the Palm site and I was in business. I put my entire customer contact list on my Palm IIIe. It comes with Palm desktop software that allows me to keep the contact list current with ease. It also lets me input my calendar items, to-do lists, etc. from my desktop or laptop. Then I just put the Palm in the HotSync cradle that came with it, push one button and it synchronizes in just a few seconds.
Now I have a carbon copy in my Palm IIIe of everything on my laptop. I don't have to carry around my planner anymore. The IIIe has many more features than I personally need. I haven't yet found a need to get my e-mail via my Palm or to use the infrared scanner.
To me, it's well worth the price just for the convenience of storing my entire address book. One nice feature is being able to have multiple address lists. One for business, one for personal. I have one named "Golf Courses" and another for "Hotels", so I don't have to sort through 500 names to find a hotel.
Don't know what I ever did without it ! Maybe one day I'll learn all the other stuff it will do, but for now it suits me just fine as a glorified address book & calendar.
