Get 2 computers online with only one phone line

Our family had 2 computers but only 1 phone line and didn't want to spend the extra money getting another phone line. We looked around and chose the Netgear SB104 starter kit. It was easy to install and we got our computers networked right away. Then we ran into one big problem......how do we both get on the internet??? There were no instructions on this in the manual, but the box had stated shared internet access. The first thing we did was went to the netgear website and found nothing. Then we called the toll free number several times and was on hold forever. Finally we got thru and the tech there told us we needed a socks server to do the internet thing. We still really didn't understand none of this so we went online to the MIRC network and asked questions there to someone online about computers and they explained it better. We downloaded this program called ppp share which allowed us both to use the internet, but we still weren't able to run all our apps like instant messenger and some of the pay to surf bars from the networked computer because it couldn't detect a direct dial up connection. We found this other program called socks 32 which is a freeware program and it is only installed on the computer that is not the host computer. You start it and you can choose what programs to start through it like your browser, aim, etc. It kind of tricks the servers into thinking that you have a direct dial up connection instead of going through a proxy server. The ppp share program is only installed on the host computer. So with both of these programs we are happily both surfing the internet and running our programs via one phone line.
