| phogen's Full Review: Guillemot Maxi Sound Fortissimo |
I believe this is Guillemot's first try in the soundcard area. The definitely make a good run at it. If you look at the features of this card it looks like a contender. It uses a new yamaha chipset that is the first to support DirectSound, EAX and A3D, sound. This is great for gamers who play games that support the different standards. For the gaming side, this card is a good value and performs fairly well.
For people that use their computer as a cd player and mp3 player, this might not be the best card for you. I found the sound quality to be below that of other cards. This is important to me because I listen to MP3's and CD's a lot on my computer. At $49 this is definitely a budget soundcard. For the price it offers a lot of features and is great for games. I really wasn't pleased with the sound quality so I ended up returning it for the $99 soundblaster Live! soundcard. For an extra $50 you get better sound quality, but the gaming performance is about the same.
If your a gamer only then this is a great card for the price. If you listen to a lot of music, you might want to consider a soundblaster Live! card.
