Ebates.com is a web site that issues you "rebates" for online purchases at many online stores.
In order to use the Ebates service you must first sign up. You will receieve an Ebates e-mail address and a login/password. When you go to shop you first enter the Ebates.com front-end and choose a store. At the time this review was writen there were currently 478 stores on ebates organized in 17 catgetories from Computers to toys to travel. The rebate percentage is different for each store. They range from 1% to 40% with the average being abour 10-12%.
When you wish to use ebates you click on the store at the ebates.com website. After that ebates will ask you for a user name and password and you will be redirected to the store website. You then procede with your shoping as normal. You can use any coupons or other discounts that you may have. The only difference in your experience is that you must use the ebates e-mail address when checking out at the store. This however, all mail to your ebates address is automatically redirected to your normal e-mail address so there is no real change to the user. After a order is confirmed you should receieve a confirmation e-mail from ebates telling you how much you have earned.
Payment is by check 45 days after the end of each quater is you have earned $5 or more. If you have earned $10 as of March 31 then you should receieve your check on or about May 15. I have found that the checks generally arrive on the exact day that they are expected. If you do not earn $5 or more in a quater the amount you did earn is rolled over to the next quater.
Ebates also supports a referral system where you can earn extra money if your friends shop. The referral system is three levels with earnings percentages of 10%, 5% and 2.5%.
The Ebates website allows you to view a detailed list of what you have earned allowing you to make sure you're getting everything that you deserve. If an ebate is not processed you can contact customer service and they will fix the problem. Ebates that are not credited quickly or at all are the fault of the store, not ebates, but they will make sure they fix it.
In the past three quaters I've saved almost $200. For anybody that shops online, this is a great way to save some extra money over those already great online prices.
