| pulshrq's Full Review: Micron Millenia MAX Series |
First off I originally intended to nuy this as a gift, but once I saw a demo of its capabilities, I immediately decided to make my current computer the gift instead. Anyone who is looking for a computer that will be expandable and upgradeable for the years to come, yet do not want to take the time or hassle to build thier own system, this is the system for you! Extremely expandable, up to five internal drives, and four external, you should truly never run into a storage problem. Add in a fully upgradeable motherboard, you should not have to be at your favorite electronics store buying a mother anytime soon. But if you want, the case is compatible with almost any mother board on the market.
Truly I chose this gift for the upgradeability and the expandability, but in the end, I wanted th most bang for the buck, and boy was it a bang. Another factor was previous work experience with a Micron in this little office I used to work in, that computer too was a great computer. However, everytime I have ever tried to call Micron, not often, they have had the absolute worst tech support that I have ever experienced, so if you do not know much about computers then I suggest some sort of extended warranty that provides for free tech-support, along with some protection not provided by the manufacturer. For example, manufacturers will only cover "defects in manufacturer's defects only," so any damage caused by power-surge, heat, dust, or humidity no coverage throught the manufacturer, and you are the one footing the bill for all repairs. And if you know the current cost of computer repairs, you will understand what I am saying. Currently the only retailer carrying Micron is Best Buy, and their "Service Plan" is only $180 for three years on-site service, plus free tech-support.
So as with any computer, buy the following products for the best performance possible:
Optical mouse, longer lasting, plus the red laser is just awesome.
Four channel speakers and sound card, for all you hardcore gamers out there also really awesome if your model has a DVD Player
Canned Air, daily maintenance is so important, plus if you are trying to get some dust off your compact disk, this is by far the best way
Battery Back-Up with AVR, for all you out there who have lost a hard drive to a power surge, or your final to a power outage the AVR technology conditions the voltage going into your line which helps the computer run faster, cooler, longer. Another neat thing is the interface this accessory has with your computer, automatically shuts down your computer in case of a power outage, to prevent any damage to your hard-drive.
