| EvilMunchkin's Full Review: Creative Labs 3D Blaster Annihilator 2 MX |
I got this recently bought this after being frustrated trying to play games like Half Life. I did so much research on this site and asked everybody I could find which one is best. I was so anxious and confused. After researching and REresearching every aspect of every card I narrowed it down to three cards: this one, Hercules 3D Prophet II MX, and Guillemot 3D Prophet II MX. They all had the supreme nVidia GeForce 2 chipset which I found most people recommended over other like VooDoo. I got this only because I found it fastest and cheapest.
First I must get the specs out of the way because I know when I was researching cards I hated people who didn't include anything about the actual card. This card is made by Creative Labs, a very well known and respected company. Creative Labs IS the sound card business so I assumed their graphics would be awesome too. This card has a second generation transform and lighting engines that can produce 20 million triangles per second. Along with nVidia's chipset (geforce 2), the 3D Blaster Annihilator 2 MX also has nVidia's shading rasterizer which produces lifelike effects and shading. One of the most important specs of this card is the 32mb of DDR memory. DDR means it performs basically, twice as fast as stated. The DDR factor eliminated a lot of cards from my list like the Elsa Gladiac and a few others. This card runs at 350 MHz and has two independent pixel pipelines (whatever that is).
When I was wanting a new card I thought it would make my graphics smoother, faster, and more realistic. It did all of these for my graphics, some not as much as I hoped. But heck!, this card is not expensive for what you get. I really noticed a dramatic increase in smoothness of movement and it is a lot (faster frames per second), I would have like my graphics to be sharper.. but that I think is really my game, not the card. Who knows? All I know is that I do not regret my purchase and am glad I can play games like Half-Life in OpenGL mode instead of software mode. If you have globs of cash and money you may want the GTS or Ultra version, but if you are normal and don't want to spend hundreds on a graphics card, this is a good choice.
