Finally, Webtv has brought us webtv users closer to the year 2000!! The makers of webtv recently offered an upgrade so that our webtv boxes are compatible with MSN Messenger Service. Webtv has never been able to use any kind of messenger service, so this is BIG news! We've been able to visit chat rooms, but have never been able to use anything like the MSN Messenger Service. I have had the service for about 2 weeks now. I used it first with only other webtv users, but soon found out it could be used with computer users who had downloaded the service. So, I got a few computer friends to download MSN Messenger so we could give it a try. I was told by them that the service was quick and easy to download and easy to install and use. Oh, guess I should clarify, webtv users do not have to download the service. It was sent through phone lines as an upgrade to the webtv box. So far I have really enjoyed using the MSN service. It is very easy to use. With webtv, you create a buddy list of other users who have MSN Messenger. You can see when anyone on your buddy list is connected to the web and you can immediately start sending messages! The service notifies you by a distinctive "beeping" noise when a buddy has connected to the web. There is also another "beep" that lets you know when one of your buddies has sent you a message. An option that I really enjoy about the messenger service is that you can also turn it off. That is an especially nice option if you have work to do on-line, or you just don't want to be bothered. Another feature is that you do not use your place on the web while using the service. I can be in my mail section, surfing the web, or posting to a forum and use the service. As soon as I end the conversation on the service, I can immediately go back to my previous place on the web! Overall, I am very satisfied with the service.
