My Dell. Is my Dell for life.
Written: Apr 01 '00
Pros:Read the article. All the Pros are there.
Cons:I can find none.
Ok. I am a Systems administrator. I have to take care of 700 users on the phone or on site. So when I get to go home and mess around with a computer I do not want to have to troubleshoot some lemon. So I went with the best computer I could find. I bought a Dell. Mine has a 800mhz chip in it instead of the 750 but that does not mean much. The machine was easy to set up (all color coded). After a short sign up and call dell and tell them you have the machine, it was up and running like a brand new race car. I have had it for about a month and have had no problem with it at all. The modem never fails. I hardly ever get any kind of error. My machine has 3 partitions on its 30 gb drive. One for WINNT, WIN98, and one for Windows 2000 that we are about to roll out at work. I love this machine.
Sales.
I called up the sales department after browsing the web site for awhile. I discussed what I wanted and he pointed me to the exact machine. I love the DVD, I love the 133 front side bus for the screaming 800mhz chip.
Inside the computer.
Every thing is in its place wire tied down and looking like a well oiled nascar on race day. It has adquate ventilation to handle all the heat of the RAM, HDD, and the PIII Chip (it has a fan shroud on the chip). The Hard drive is a lovly 30gb. 1000 times bigger than my first HDD (Irony).
Performace.
This machine just rocks. It is faster than fast. Michael Johnson has nothing on this machine in the 200 meters.
The sound on this thing is awesome. The Soundblaster live is the best sound card I have ever played with.
The video card is great also. It has 64 meg ram to run the smooth DVD player in the bay.
Even the chassie is awesome. It is easy for my to put the network card into the slot. It is not one of those all in one boards.
Price.
You get what you pay for. The actual CPU was a modest 1000 dollars. I paid about 3500 all said and done. But I got a trintron 19" flat screen monitor and some kick speakers (altec-lansing).
I would recomend this machine and its family to anyone, anytime, anyplace.
