My experience!
Jun 27 '00
I work in information systems support for one of the largest market research e-commerce company, keeping a excess of 60 dells, up and running. As far as help desk goes, I'm glad that my company went with the dell dimensions.
There excellent computers, that are very stable. Some problems I have had with them is a potentional hard drive problem as one of the systems started making werid noises at bootup. I called dell up and explained the problem. They sent a service man right away to replace it. Really good service!
I have not experienced any major problems with them, which is a great thing! Coming from 60 computers, this is a great ratio. We were so happy with dells service we bought our big servers from the also, which has done there job very nicely.
Another thing I like about dells, is that theres not as intergrated as compaqs, you can actully change parts in them to a point where there not intergrated on the board, which means more options as far as upgrades. Even tho compaqs are upgradedable, in general there much harder to upgrade then dells.
So much so that dell welcomes people to open there computer up, as they just have one twist off nob, that allows you to open the computer very nicely, and as a tech this is a great help when I need to expand ram into workstations.
Compaq has this sticker on the back of them that voids warrenty if broken, which means if you upgrade it, and something breaks on it Compaq won't do anything for you.
I'm not saying that compaqs are bad, I sell them at my part time job...there great computers if you don't wanna spend more money on a dell, but like I explained you are limited on what you can upgrade on it.
I would suggest the dells highly for a biz and top of the line home computer, if your just starting out compaqs with there lower prices..and local help such as sears..if you have any problems with it..is great.
