If you’re one of thousands of web surfers using Yahoo’s free E-mail and other web services these days, you’ve probably been approached by the Internet giant for some very interesting information lately. Haven’t you? And if I were you I wouldn’t give it to them.
I’ve heard from some longtime Yahoo E-mail clients recently that were very annoyed that some yahoo recently asked them for a credit card in order to continue their “free” E-mail services. Now this may have been a joke or a scam on the part of some weasel lurking in a dark web corner, but I don’t think so.
Apparently, Yahoo and lots of other free service providers are now asking their loyal users to fork over a credit card number to prove they are "of age" to utilize their account services. They aren’t going to charge anything to it; they just need it for security purposes. Yeah, right!
Yahoo is in a growing stage right now, having teamed up with K-Mart and their Blue Light free national 56K Internet access program. I'm not sure if this action isn't a by-product of this new alliance with one of the country's retail giants. Could this be K-Mart insinuating some of its marketing influence on Yahoo?
If they are so interested in security they could run checks against department of motor vehicle records or maybe take advantage of all the credit histories that Internet identity thieves make off with all the time. But, alas! What they want is a credit card number.
If we aren’t carrying out any financial transactions with Yahoo, then why should they need this information? This sounds like something an Internet rip off artist would pull. What would make Yahoo want to do something like this? We’ll probably never know, but I do know they’re not getting that information out of me.
With all of the free ISP’s and E-mail providers available to choose from, I suggest all of you yahooers just move on down that virtual road and settle in with another service provider that won’t be so invasive on your personal space.
That's my epinion! Mahalo for stopping by!
