| rgdave's Full Review: DocuPrint N17 Printer |
When you're ready to move up to a REAL laser printer for your home or small office, the Zerox N17 is a great choice. I played around with a couple of $300 personal lasers, but they didn't handle anything but the most basic tasks very well. When I found the N17 at a great price ($599) at Onsale.com, I broke down and bought a real printer.
And am I glad I did. The Xerox N17 inspires confidence with its sturdy design. Paper handling is strong, with lots of options. While the N17 lacks a straight through paper path ( necessary on many printers for jam-proof handling of heavy paper and card stock), it handles card stock with ease. And when it does jam, they are cleared easily from the front or the back.
On the downside, the software doesn't always interact perfectly with Windows programs, particularly the "Envelope" wizard in Word. It takes some trial and error to figure out the way to properly insert envelopes into the manual feeder to print out addresses correctly. (One tip: put a sticker on the printer telling you the way to insert envelopes .... it'll save a lot of wasted envelopes.)
The included PostScript is a nice, added bonus, along with the generous printer memory. And there is an 'edge to edge' print function, that minimizes the margin area.
All in all, I'd highly recommend this ... lots of features at less cost than a comparable HP.
