| jnellis's Full Review: Hi-Val DVD ROM |
I recently was looking for a DVD-Rom drive for the computer I am currently building. After looking at the competition I decided to get the Hi-Val 10X DVD-Rom (40X CD) mainly because of it's speed and price. At only $117 dollars, this drive was cheaper than slower units. Although the version I got lacked a hardware decoder card, a set was available for around $199. Surprisingly this DVD-Rom drive is also very quite considering the speed it runs at, my older 6X drive was louder. The access times are very low but the speed increase is not very noticeable because access time is measured in milliseconds. I have had no problems installing and running the drive under Windows98. Just about anyone looking for a new DVD-Rom drive would probably be very happy with this product.
